Residency Requirements

Under Lei Orgânica n.º 1/2026 (in force since 19 May 2026), the legal residence period is counted from the date your residence permit was issued. The earlier rule (Lei Orgânica n.º 1/2024), which counted from the permit application, applies only to applications filed up to 18 May 2026.
