CIPLE Exam Results 2026: When They Come Out & How to Check

May 9, 2026

Reading drill

Practise CIPLE A2 reading now

Move from strategy to exam-style reading tasks, then use the mock report to find weak sections before buying more prep.

Recommended next step

CIPLE result timing and next steps.

Keep Portuguese warm while waiting, or switch to a retake plan if one skill was weak.

The wait is the easy part. The score sheet is where people misread a pass: CIPLE needs 55% overall and 25% in every component. Read the three component lines before you celebrate the total.

When CIPLE A2 results are released

Plan on roughly six to eight weeks after exam day. CAPLE publishes session dates in advance; your confirmation letter should name the expected results window. If nothing appears after ten weeks, email your LAPE centre โ€” they often know before the portal updates.

Exam DateApproximate Results DateDays to Wait
February 7, 2026March 20-27, 2026~42 days
March 14, 2026April 25 - May 2, 2026~42 days
May 14, 2026June 25 - July 2, 2026~42 days
July 16, 2026August 27 - September 3, 2026~42 days

Note: Release dates vary by centre and session. Treat the confirmation letter and CAPLE notices as authoritative โ€” not forum guesses or old session timelines.

Check results on CAPLE

Results go live on the CAPLE site when your session is graded. Have your candidate number and registration password ready โ€” the same login you used for inscriรงรฃo.

On the CAPLE portal

  1. Open caple.letras.ulisboa.pt and sign in with the account you created at registration.
  2. Go to Resultados: On the menu, open Resultados / Consulta de resultados (wording can vary slightly by session).
  3. Enter your candidate number: It is on your confirmation email and exam-day paperwork. If you cannot find it, contact your LAPE centre before results day.
  4. Enter your password: Same password as registration. Use the reset link on the login page if you lost it โ€” do that before results day, not in a panic on release morning.
  5. Open your session: Select your exam date and session. If results are not posted yet, the portal will say so โ€” that is normal before the published release date.
  6. Read the score sheet: You will see the total out of 150, Reading+Writing, Listening, and Speaking, plus pass/fail. If you passed, note the certificate number for your citizenship file.
  7. Save a copy: Download or print the PDF for your records. You still need the paper diploma from CAPLE for most official files.

If the portal will not load

  • Not released yet: Compare today's date with the release window on your confirmation letter.
  • Lost candidate number: Search your registration email or call your LAPE centre with your ID details.
  • Lost password: Use Recuperar palavra-passe on the CAPLE login page.
  • Site errors: Try again later or email info@caple.pt with your candidate number and session date.

How to read your CIPLE A2 score

CIPLE A2 runs 0โ€“150 points across three components. You need 55% overall and at least 25% in each one โ€” a strong total cannot rescue a weak component.

ComponentPointsMinimum to PassYour Score
Reading + Writing0-5012.5 (25%)___/50
Listening0-5012.5 (25%)___/50
Speaking0-5012.5 (25%)___/50
Overall Score0-15082.5 (55%)___/150

Pass rules

You pass only if both are true:

  • Overall score: At least 82.5 points (55% of 150)
  • Component minimums: At least 12.5 points (25%) in EACH of the three components

Worked example: 50 + 50 + 24 = 124 total (82.7%) โ€” still a fail, because Speaking is below 12.5 (25%). That floor catches more people than the headline percentage.

Grade Levels

  • Insuficiente (Insufficient): Below 82.5 points - FAIL
  • Suficiente (Sufficient): 82.5-99.9 points - PASS
  • Bem (Good): 100-124.9 points - PASS
  • Muito Bem (Very Good): 125+ points - PASS

After you pass

Next steps

You passed โ€” now handle the paperwork in order:

1. Wait for the diploma: CAPLE posts the paper certificate two to four weeks after results โ€” by mail or pickup at your LAPE centre. The diploma does not expire; store the original safely.

2. File it for citizenship or residence: Use the original diploma when AIMA or your lawyer asks for language proof. Follow their current checklist โ€” requirements change faster than CAPLE wording on the site.

3. Start the citizenship timeline: CIPLE clears the language box. You still need the residency years, clean record, and the rest of the file AIMA expects โ€” language is rarely the only missing piece.

Retake plan

A fail is usually one component, not your whole level. CIPLE runs nine sessions a year โ€” pick the next realistic date and fix the skill that pulled you under the floor.

1. Read the component lines first: Weak Reading+Writing โ†’ grammar drills and timed writing. Weak Listening โ†’ daily PT-PT audio at exam pace. Weak Speaking โ†’ mock prompts with feedback, not silent flashcards.

2. Name the failure mode: Most retakes fail for the same reason: one component below 25% while the total looks fine. Less often it is pure overall score or exam-day timing.

3. Rebuild around the weak skill: Spend half your study time on the lowest component. Add one timed mock per week with section scores โ€” totals hide the problem you just saw on the slip.

4. Book the next session: Nine CIPLE dates per year โ€” six in Portugal, three international. Register when your centre opens; seats go quickly on popular sessions.

5. Check readiness before you pay again: Run a free timed mock on Prep2Go. If one section still sits on the floor, fix that before you rebook.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will my CIPLE A2 results be released?

Results usually take several weeks. Check your exam confirmation and centre messages for the expected release window.

How do I check my CIPLE A2 results online?

Log in at caple.letras.ulisboa.pt, open Resultados, enter your candidate number and password, and open your session.

What if I don't pass CIPLE A2?

You can retake CIPLE A2 as many times as you want. CIPLE A2 is offered 9 times per year, so you can register for the next available session.

How long is my CIPLE A2 certificate valid?

The CAPLE-issued CIPLE A2 diploma does not expire. For each application, follow current AIMA instructions; the certificate itself has no printed end date.

What is the 25% trap in CIPLE A2?

The 25% floor means any single component below 12.5 points (25% of 50) fails you โ€” even with a strong total. Always check all three lines on the slip.

Can I get my CIPLE A2 results faster?

No. Results follow CAPLE and centre processing timelines. Some centres may offer faster certificate delivery, but that does not usually speed up grading.

What if I lost my CIPLE A2 certificate?

Email CAPLE with your certificate number or session details. Replacements take time โ€” start the request before your filing deadline.

Can I use my CIPLE A2 results for other purposes?

Yes. CIPLE A2 is recognized internationally and can be used for university applications, work permits, residency applications, or any other purpose requiring Portuguese language proficiency proof.

How do I appeal my CIPLE A2 results?

If you believe there's an error, contact CAPLE directly. You can request a review of your exam, but appeals are rarely successful unless there's a clear administrative error.
