The four separate language exams, with no combined percentage, are on the Inburgering A2 page.
Quick Answer
Build the plan around the four separate DUO papers (Lezen 65 min, Luisteren 45 min, Schrijven 40 min, Spreken 35 min on exam day) plus KNM as its own 45-minute knowledge exam — not as a substitute for language study. DUO does not mandate a total number of study hours for A2; the horizons below are a planning shape, not a promise. Confirm your required level and exams in Mijn Inburgering (PIP) before you sink time into the wrong tier.
Sensible sitting order
You may schedule the four language exams on different days. A practical order for many people is input first (Lezen, then Luisteren), then Schrijven (the only pen-and-paper paper: four tasks such as a short letter or form, 40 minutes), then Spreken (answers recorded at a computer, 35 minutes — not a live interview with an examiner).
KNM sits outside the language block
KNM is a separate knowledge exam (45 minutes). Keep part of your calendar for society topics, but do not let it absorb the whole language plan.
Planning horizons (study shape only)
These bands are planning scaffolding — not DUO rules and not a forecast that you will pass.
About four weeks
Use when you already read and hear Dutch at A2 in daily life and mainly need exam rhythm, timing, and weak-skill polish. Short daily blocks beat one long weekly cram.
About eight weeks
Use when listening or writing still wobbles at speed. Spend roughly half the block on input, half on production, and add short KNM sessions so society items do not slip.
About three months
Use when Dutch is still thin for work, forms, or fast audio. Prioritise high-frequency vocabulary and sentence patterns, then layer exam-style tasks.
